You've Been Part of Something BIG!!!
WHY ARE WE GATHERING THIS DATA?
For over 2 years, drivers and carriers have been part of the biggest case study that the industry has ever seen and never asked to be a part of! The trucking industry has generated all of the data we need to prove that HOS is NOT the safety mechanism long believed by regulators and lawmakers.
The time is NOW to gather, compile, analyze, and present the data to show that drivers operating without HOS and logs have been more rested, less stressed, and there has been a positive impact on highway safety.
This data was the thing that was missing when TruckerNation and others advocated for, and successfully changed, HOS in 2020. However, those changes were just the beginning of the HOS conversation between the industry and regulators. Without quantitative data to support the anecdotal data given by the industry, regulators were unable to grant all of the flexibilities that we were seeking. This data will support further flexibilities and more unbiased and realistic safety conversations with regulators and lawmakers.
GOALS OF THE DATA GATHERING EFFORT
GATHER AS MUCH QUANTATIVE DATA FROM AS MANY CARRIERS & DRIVERS AS POSSIBLE
When compiling data that may impact an industry as large as trucking and the likes of every motorist on our nation's roads... we will need a lot of data. However, we know that there is a lot of data to be had as many drivers and carriers have been utilizing the flexibilities offered by the Emergency Declaration since its original issuance on March 13, 2020.
HAVE DATA ANALYZED BY AN UNBIASED, NON-GOVERNMENT, THIRD PARTY
The trucking industry deserves to have access to the facts — and should trust that government officials are using good data to make policy decisions. Democratic accountability requires the dissemination of accurate information so the industry can evaluate the quality of decisions made by regulators. It’s time to restore the industry's trust in transparent, accountable, and evidence-based policymaking.
PETITION FMCSA FOR HOS CHANGES
With unbiased data, including a complete report outlining conclusions that can be drawn from the data, TruckerNation will be able to petition FMCSA for HOS changes.
ADVOCATE WITH LAWMAKERS
With unbiased data, including a complete report outlining conclusions that can be drawn from the data, TruckerNation will be able to advocate for changes to existing legislation or introduce common-sense bills.
HOW OUR DATA COLLECTION EFFORT IS DIFFERENT FROM FMCSA'S
WE ARE ASKING ABOUT ACCIDENTS
We are gathering data about any accidents that occurred while the driver/carrier was operating under the Emergency Declaration. FMCSA is not asking for any accident data in their data collection effort.
WE ARE GATHERING DATA FROM THE BEGINNING
We are gathering data from the first issuance of the Emergency Declaration on March 13, 2020. FMCSA's data collection effort only allows drivers/carriers to report as early as January 2021 meaning there are 9 more months of data in TruckerNation's independent data collection effort than FMCSA's.
WE HAVE DEFINED GOALS
We have defined goals associated with our independent data collection effort. We are being transparent in how we intend on using the data with everyone that comes to our site to report. FMCSA has never defined their intent for gathering Emergency Declaration data.
DATA WILL BE ANALYZED BY NON-GOVERNMENT THIRD PARTY
With unbiased data, including a complete report outlining conclusions that can be drawn from the data, TruckerNation will be able to petition FMCSA for HOS changes. We will use a non-government third party to analyze our data to remove any bias or perceived bias.
